MARYVILLE MUSIC ACADEMY

Jeremy Spurgeon, a native of East Tennessee, has been playing, performing, and composing music for nearly five decades.  His father, a bluegrass banjo player, began teaching him acoustic guitar around the age of seven. 

By the age of nine Jeremy could play banjo and mandolin as well.  There was no shortage of musical instruments in the Spurgeon household and Jeremy took advantage of that, learning piano, organ, hammer dulcimer, harmonica, lap steel, and many others.  

His father, an avid music fan, introduced Jeremy to a wide range of artists and musical genres.  As a young teenager, Jeremy was interested in pop and rock music and switched his focus to learning synthesizer and electric bass guitar, as well as, writing original songs and performing for family and friends.  It was during this time that he formed a lifelong musical relationship with his cousin,  bandmate, and Maryville Music Academy Instructor, Lon Spurgeon.  

Over the years the two have written song and performed together in many bands, playing throughout the region as “Matrix Mirage”, “The Spurgeon Boys”, “The Eric Taylor Band”, and others.  

As a result, Jeremy has been featured a number of time on WDVX, performed for special events like weddings, parades, private parties, and has opened for bands like “Pine Mountain Railroad” and others. From electronic, to rock, to bluegrass, and old-time, Jeremy has developed his own style and approach to his instruments, tunes, and performing for an audience.  

For Jeremy, the joy of music is an integral part of life.  That joy and excitement are something that he wants to instill in his students.
