Michael Court

Drum and Piano Instructor

Michael brings more than 30 years of experience as a performing musician and over 10 years of teaching experience to MMA. Throughout his career, he has worked with students at a variety of skill levels—from beginners learning their first notes and rhythms to more advanced musicians developing their technique, musicality, and performance skills.

Michael believes that every student learns differently. His approach begins with getting to know each student’s goals, musical interests, and individual learning style. From there, he builds lessons that combine strong fundamentals, music theory, technique, performance skills, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy making music.

He has experience preparing students for recitals, exams, talent shows, and band performances, while placing a strong emphasis on developing effective practice habits and building confidence both in lessons and on stage.

Michael also brings valuable experience working with neurodivergent students. As someone who is neurodivergent himself, he has a personal understanding of the importance of adapting teaching methods to the individual rather than expecting every student to learn in exactly the same way.

Whether behind the drum kit or at the piano, Michael’s goal is to meet students where they are, help them make meaningful progress, celebrate their accomplishments, and encourage a lifelong love of music.

We are thrilled to have Michael joining the Maryville Music Academy family and look forward to our students and families getting to know him!
